I took a role at MCI in July 2024 after 13 months of unemployment. It has been an interesting experience in a lot of ways. MCI is in the events industry, specifically event registration & housing. There are a lot of extremely interesting/stimulating technical problems to solve. One major positive to this opportunity is it has enabled me to actualize a career goal I made a few years back: to promote Node.js to a first-class proficiency.

Despite a lackluster start to the year, Maria and I did end up having a very good year. We did a large number of live performances both as Awful Falafel and Electric Falafel and took some nice vacations. I think most importantly, we generally achieved a coalescence of purpose as a unit. I understand that's a weird thing to say but it was also a weird thing to experience. We have always gotten along on a deep level, but I feel like we "get" each other much better now. Not sure why I feel like I needed to share this, but I do.

I have been exploring self-hosting my web applications lately. In fact, this website is now hosted on a Raspberry Pi on my own network!
